![]() I am not sure if I want a standard lab-based job in industry because I am worried about work-life balance in those roles.Īny ideas for positions to search for? All the research I’ve done in my own comes up with painfully obvious things that are not the right fit (like teach at a university - duh if I could do that I would). The things I miss about science are learning and figuring out new things. The things I like about teaching are being able to nerd out over science all day and getting to know my students. ![]() I’m not sure if moving to another school is the fix. My school is okay - plenty of things could be better, but a lot could be worse. I regularly work 55-60 hours a week and that is just too much for me to feel happy. I love teaching, and I think I’m pretty good at it, but it is just so unsustainable. Teaching part-time with no job security or benefits does not sound less stressful than my current job! I’ve looked at local community colleges for months, but most positions are for adjuncts. I am not competitive for the standard tenure-track jobs at university and don’t want to put myself through the hell of applying. ![]() I’ve been very involved in curriculum changes in my time at the school. ![]() Current position is teaching AP Biology at a high school (this is my fifth year). My background: - PhD in pharmacology (biology related field) and then research as a postdoc for 3 years in neuroscience. Aside from that my most important requirement is work-life balance. I want something where I can utilize my background in both science AND teaching. Problem is I am not sure what jobs to even start looking for. I am a career transition teacher (year 5), and here I am, at 36, considering a career transition…again.
